Mission of Agency

The mission of Broadstep – Wisconsin, Inc., dba Quest Behavioral Healthcare, is to provide an array of healthcare services to persons experiencing mental illness and any co-occurring disorders in order to enable them to achieve and maintain optimal mental health; to become productive members of society; and to lead happy and fulfilled lives. “Mental health” refers to your overall psychological well-being. It includes the way you feel about yourself, the quality of your relationships, and your ability to manage your feelings and deal with difficulties. It means you are in a state of wellbeing where you feel good and function well in the world. According to the World Health Organization, good mental health is when you can cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively, and realize your potential.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (“NAMI”): “Just as diabetes is a disorder of the pancreas, a mental illness is a disorder of the brain that can make it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of life.”  In recognition of the brain-based nature of mental disorders, at Quest Behavioral Healthcare we employ an integrated medical person-centered model to treat the client, one that embraces both physical health and mental health.  We aim to be a center of excellence by continuously innovating our programs and services based on new thinking and research in behavioral healthcare.

According to NAMI – “When managing serious mental illness (SMI), the recovery journey can be long and challenging. It often requires creative and prolonged efforts to build and maintain a full life, but many people do reach recovery. In fact, up to 65% of people living with SMI experience partial to full recovery over time.”

“The term “recovery” refers to the process of learning how to minimize the symptoms associated with SMI. Note that recovery does not mean symptoms stop entirely or that deficits disappear. Ultimately, recovery is not synonymous with “cured.” Rather, it means reaching a place where you are able to pursue a safe, dignified and meaningful life.”

“The cornerstones of recovery are self-determination, treatment, engagement with family and friends, work and hope. Loved ones play a critical role in a person’s recovery, especially when well-intentioned caregivers listen to and respect their loved one’s goals. Additionally, the guidance of competent, experienced and compassionate mental health practitioners can also be invaluable.”

Mission of Crisis Houses

We already operate two Crisis Stabilization Houses for Milwaukee County.  Here is the Mission Statement for the Crisis Houses specifically:

The mission of the Broadstep Crisis Stabilization Houses is to stabilize and promote recovery and rehabilitation in the shortest possible time of persons experiencing an acute mental or emotional crisis characterized by a psychotic episode or a high level of mental or emotional distress which may be precipitated by a traumatic event or a perceived life problem for which the individual’s typical coping strategies are inadequate; to avert their inpatient hospitalization or re-hospitalization; and to transition them back to a residential and living environment that is at least as safe and independent as existed for them prior to the event that resulted in the crisis.
